I am 36 and I am already experiencing some hot flashes around my cycle. I also am having some irregularity in the length between them and how long that they last…. Am I in Peri-menopause??

It is possible. I know women who are starting at age 38.

As peri-menopause is a hormonal thing, you may be interested to know that the #1 hormone – because it can affect the production of all the other hormones – is insulin.

To help keep peri-menopausal symptoms to a minimum, naturally, one needs to know the status of their pancreas’ insulin production. Ask your doctor for a fasting insulin blood test . Ask for a copy of your results. 10 or higher is abnormal for an adult.

Also ask for a saliva test. This test will tell you if any of your feminine hormones are not at the best levels. I do not like doctors who prescribe hormones for per-menopausal symptoms without this testing first. When that happened to me – the shot he gave me (for DUB – another story) switched me from low blood sugar to diabetes.

Your peri-menopausal symptoms could be related to low blood sugar. You may want to check out www.hufa.org, and click on the symptoms link to check yourself out.

I’d guess that yes, you are in peri-menopause… but then, I’ve been having hot flashes since I was 23 or so….

Doctors say it begins 30 years after your first period.

Yes- sounds like you are in peri-menopause. Most women start perimenopause between ages 39 and 51. The most common sign of perimenopause is longer, often irregular menstrual cycles that are caused by hormonal ups and downs.

I’m glad you asked that question, was wondering the same thing about myself. My periods are ok for now, though much more painfull than they used to be, but the biggest change for me is feeling all over the place, premenstrual several times a day- not easy for other people to deal with let alone dealing with it myself! am looking into natural hormone replacements…I’m 37. The nurse’s answer seems good to me!
